A bold two-bar quotation with lyrics inscribed to E E (which is sweetly written out as two Es an octave apart on a treble clef). Signed by both the German-British baritone and his wife, American soprano Lillian Henschel. Ink smudged a little on date.

Also with inscription and signature of Herman's librettist, Ernst Wolfram, dated 1895 and in purple ink. Attractive unusual ensemble.

New York, 1911. Hertz was also an important figure in early recording, leading the first recording sessions of the Berlin Philharmonic and San Francisco Symphony.
